Do I have to study for TOEFL?

Everyone around me is taking TOEFL exam after GRE. Maybe because its easy to score the minimum required TOEFL scores or if we prepare for GRE, scoring in TOEFL is easy. But, I'm going to study for TOEFL. It will be hard to just prepare for TOEFL for just 1 month and score 100+. Students who have good reading habits, have natural tendency to score good marks in TOEFL. But, other than that I plan to listen to few english audio and see how I can score in practice test.

I haven't purchased any books for TOEFL yet, I plan to search online and use some pdf tutorials and download few practice questions. I'm studying 3rd wordslist in barrons, and still long way to go. I will keep writing about my GRE practice test and see how I improve the scores.

For TOEFL-ibt: While GRE tests your spontaneity in analytical and logical skills along with language, TOEFL tests your spontaneity in language and how refined your language can be, thats it. In TOEFL it doesn't matter whether your answer is logically correct or not.(there can be many answers to the same question).

Rather than studying i believe you need to practice a lot for TOEFL (try different strategies while practice). The listening and speaking sections are not covered in GRE preparation. Also the writing section differs a bit from GRE writing. In TOEFL there are integrated tasks which u need to practice in addition to the independent tasks (comparatively easier if u are preparing for GRE also). The score of writing is also counted. TOEFL checks how well you can paraphrase things or elaborate the topic. Contrary to Reading section in GRE(max 10 min/ passage),reading in TOEFL is comparatively easy because u got at least 15-20 min time per passage.

As long as you are capable of communicating efficiently in English, TOEFL does not require a lot of effort in vocab. However, good vocab will definately help in framing concise sentences with precise meanings in the given time constraints. I feel good vocab is the key to stand out from regular score of 80s n 90's out of 120.
